THE JOURNEY AHEAD
Lower School Education Plans
Introduction to Campus Plan
We are excited to welcome our students and families back for the 2020-2021 School Year! Whether on campus or off, St. Gabriel’s remains committed to providing exceptional, dynamic, interactive, and intentional educational experiences for our students. We will continue our commitment to educating the whole child (physical, emotional and spiritual) and believe that the personal interactions with students and faculty are critical to this holistic approach to education. We have created a responsive campus plan; we anticipate adaptations to the policies and procedures outlined, so come back frequently for updates.
Lower School Campus Plan 2020-2021
Brick to Click Learning
As long as we are, safely, able to carry out instruction in a brick and mortar, in person setting, we will host our full student population on campus. As needed, when it is deemed unsafe by our local and federal government officials or we have confirmed cases on campus, we will respond to rolling closures with Distance Learning. We will refer to this as Brick to Click Learning. You can visit the school website to find your child’s (children’s) Interactive Learning Plan (ILP). Teachers will use these ILP’s to streamline the Distance Learning process for our students and families.
***In the instance, that your child is diagnosed with COVID, they will have the opportunity to pursue Remote Synchronous Learning with specific parameters and restrictions.
The St. Gabriel’s School Website, my SGCS, and the weekly Messenger are the hubs for all communication. Teachers, Mrs. Glenn, and Mrs. Lynch will also communicate directly with you each week.
Grading will function the same whether on campus or off.
PK3-2nd grade= iPad and Stylus
3rd and 4th grade= Chromebook
Classroom Teachers will utilize the Student Information System(SIS): MySGCS (Blackbaud) and the Learning Management System (LMS): Seesaw
ZOOM will be the platform for virtual meetings
Teachers will utilize the Google Suite of products, Flipgrid, Nearpod, Padlet, Wonder Workshop, etc. to facilitate in class and distance learning.
All students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade will follow social distancing guidelines and recommendations.
PK classrooms will make every effort to prioritize the health and safety of these students, but the social distancing recommendations have been deemed not reasonable for the developmental needs of these students.
Hand sanitizer will be available in every classroom, and students and teachers will sanitize and/or wash hands frequently.
Staff and students will be encouraged to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Used tissues should be thrown in the trash, hands will be washed immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or hand sanitizer should be used.
Children will clean their own spaces before and after they are used, in ways that are safe and developmentally appropriate. Additional cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces that are touched in common will be carried out by personnel throughout the day.
Students in grades 1-4 will wear masks in hallways.
Follow a staggered schedule for hallway use.
Adhere to social distancing by following the demarcated spots on the floor and signage in the hallways.
Students can use the playground equipment one class at a time and will need to clean high touch areas before returning to classroom.
Classes will bring a set or two of their class balls for recess. Set will need to be cleaned after each use.
Updated Distance Learning Plan
In response to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have developed a comprehensive Brick to Click Learning Plan that delivers the responsive, creative and dynamic teaching and learning that are the hallmarks of a St. Gabriel’s education. While we believe that the best place for our students is on campus, we must also follow local, state, and federal mandates to ensure the safety of everyone in our community. Aligned with these principles, we are well prepared to pivot, as needed, between campus learning to synchronous and asynchronous virtual learning. In the education world, these transitions are referred to as “Brick to Click” or “Click to Brick” Learning. The following pages outline this approach and the steps we will take to ensure that every student feels the same level of belonging, significance and fun they experience regardless of their learning environment.
Our teachers have designed learning experiences that are interactive, collaborative and engaging that allow for Brick to Click or Click to Brick learning. While the social interactions that occur naturally throughout a day will differ, we will integrate opportunities that nurture new and existing friendships and build community. We have streamlined the methods teachers use to deliver information, receive student work, and provide feedback.
The transitions from Click to Brick or Brick to Click Learning will be made easier through continuing education opportunities for students and parents. Included in these opportunities will be training on our Interactive Learning Plans (ILP). These plans are specific to your child’s (children’s) classroom and will allow for seamless transitions to and from campus learning. The ILP will include all possible learning environments including: Campus, Synchronous Remote, and Distance Learning. These plans will include schedules for all learning formats as well as hyperlinks to the digital tools and platforms being used this year.
The St. Gabriel’s community will flourish by providing a superior educational experience in a loving Catholic environment that calls forth excellence in the lives of our students. We are fortunate to be a community united by this shared vision. The learning environment doesn’t change these aspirations or our ability to achieve them. We are excited to walk this journey in partnership with you.
